Comet Neowise Photo & Video

These pictures were taken in the early morning of July 10, 11 & 12, and the evenings of 17, 18 & 19 2020 using either a Rasperberry Pi V2 camera or a Lumix GX8 micro Four-Thirds camera with a 14-140 mm zoom lens. One was taken with a 1000mm mirror lens. The GX8 was mounted on a tripod, of course, and the RPi and its camera were located within a roof-mounted, weatherproof enclosure. Photos taken before 7/14 were taken with the comet rising into the morning sky in the Northeast. Photos taken after 7/14 were taken with the comet setting into the Northwestern evening sky. Exposure conditions were usually 9 sec. at ISO800 for the RPi camera. Exposure conditions for the GX8 are listed below the photos. The video is a timelapse created from the RPi still images.

Taken on July 19, 2020 at 10:27 PM with the Lumix GX8. The streak below the comet may be a plane, meteorite or satellite I suppose.

Pictures taken on successive days, but at almost the same precise time, have been combined here into a single photo showing the shift in position of the comet, stars and the planet Venus.


Same as above, but cropped to better see the comets. Notice that the angle of the tail is rotating counter-clockwise in successive days.


Picture taken at 4:42AM 7/12/2020 with 1000mm FL mirror lens on the GX8. A short 2sec exposure at ISO1600 prevented star trails.
